Wanaka Restaurant Guide

Alivate

On a hot summer’s evening where better than the balcony at Alivate to enjoy the best view over Lake Wanaka. Recently enjoyed a make-over and introduced a new menu. Great reviews from our guests.

Amigos

A taste of Mexico in downtown Wanaka, Amigos has a relaxed atmosphere with great food and fab margaritas. Personal favourites are their chile con carne served in a tortilla basket with churros for dessert!

Bombay Palace

Upstairs at Pembroke Mall the Bombay Palace offers Indian food with all the kiwi favourites such as Butter Chicken.

Botswana Butchery

A wood-fired grill to produce the perfect steak, venison or salmon cut cooked to your liking. A little expensive but great quality food and great reviews from Maple Lodge guests.

Capriccio

This is a family restaurant with a la carte menu and blackboard specials that include venison, rabbit and pasta dishes. Mixed reviews from guests who have eaten there.

Federal Diner

A hidden gem just off Helwick St  (behind 47 Frocks and Kate Findlay interiors) – worth hunting out but only open to 4pm.

Lago

Sheltered courtyard with a view towards the lake for a lunchtime bite to eat. They serve awesome soups for the winter.

Lone Star

New Zealand family restaurant – where the portions are huge, summed up by their slogan of ‘too much is never enough’. It might be just what is needed after a hard day skiing or walking though.

Luggate Hotel

Enjoy pub food in a fabulous old building with a warm fire in winter and a cute garden for summer nights. The hotel has an interesting history and collections of photos from deer hunters who have been associated with the area over the years.

Relishes

Relaxed café dining by the lake. Tables in the back are usually shared with other diners when it is busy and the tables outside give a great opportunity to watch the world go by. Great food – one of our personal favourite places to eat and receives good reviews form our guests.

The Spice Room Indian Restaurant Wanaka

The Spice Room

Spice Room

This is the best Indian restaurant in town. We recommend the goat curry and for those who can’t decide the banquet delivers a great range of dishes. The Spice Room is a firm favourite with ourselves and our guests at Maple Lodge.

Thai Siam

The only Thai restaurant in Wanaka, offering standard Thai dishes with a view towards the lake. Mixed reviews from Maple Lodge guests.

The Cow

Pizza and spaghetti – great for those nights where you just want something simple to eat. If it is busy you can pop across the courtyard into Bar Luga or Woody’s and sit by the outside fire while you wait for a table.

The Landing

Fine dining with a great view across the lake the Landing offers a range of choices to suit most diners. Fairly pricy but always a favourite with guests and now open for lunch during the summer. (The Landing was formerly Missy’s Kitchen).

The Trout

Good pub food by the lake serving Monteith’s beer. Bread and dips are enough for 4 people so we advise having them on their own or give them a miss so you can fit in the huge plates of food for mains.

The White House

Housed in an iconic Mediterranean style building near the lake the White House offers interesting food from their blackboard menu which changes regularly. Mixed reviews from guests.

Wanaka Ale House

Good pub food by the lake though it can be quite noisy. If you don’t want to wait for a table enjoy the bar service food. If you prefer something quieter we recommend the Trout next door.
